YHS Club Spotlight: DECA
DECA, the Distributive Education Clubs of America, is run by Bella Wang and Angela Tan at YHS. It was founded by Risa Shimmura, who graduated last year in 2022. DECA meets every Thursday at lunch and is open to all students of all grades. The meetings entail activities that are both educational and entertaining and seek to provide students with an insight into the business world.
In the club, members engage in roleplays, expand their vocabulary, and develop marketing ideas and more. These activities will help members prepare themselves for the DECA International Career Development Conference which will be held in Orlando, Florida this year. The International Career Development Conference requires qualification rounds as well and is a prestigious event. Even if members do not attend the conference, the skills developed in the club, such as collaborating together a group, presenting ideas effectively, and problem-solving and quick thinking, are transferable and can be applied in various fields beyond business.
While DECA may seem like additional work on top of academics at first, it is much more than that: from forming bonds with friends to laughing together, DECA has much to offer and is very fun.
